“Slums are not a place of despair. Its inhabitants are all working towards a better life.”
Tanisha Bakshi; a blooming artist with an intense sense of arranging elements and creating a mesmerizing piece of art in her own unique way which is often beyond anyone’s imagination.
‘While exploring the ‘Slums of India’, I came across the real and unimaginable life of these people who have a fragile economic condition where they struggle hard to earn just one meal a day. But this extremity is overshadowed by a very powerful blessing and a bond of love that holds them together.
These people share a genuine, unshakable sense of community or what I would like to term as the ‘bond of hearts’. This made me realize that reality of these slums is not only beautiful but also full of life.Through My artwork I try to depict the “Essence of their Life” representing their expectations,
reality, hardship, vision, happiness, and love by using two and three-dimensional surfaces. For me the use of this readymade material is indiscriminate and complex. I’ve made it an integral part of my art
practice as it represents a hidden history. “Every scratch on a used thing has a story to tell. Every hole in the blanket or their cloth has a history.”My feelings while making this series are inexpressible.I am grateful that I have been able to see beyond the squalor and have tried to depict the same through my art. As the essence of all-beautiful art is gratitude.’ Says Tanisha.
